April 09 and Showcase

May 5, 2009

[End of March] Went to active surplus downtown and picked up buttons, switches and a speaker needed for the protoype, total time was maybe 1.5 hours.

[Early April] We finished the software coding needed to allow a laptop to the bridge between our prototype panel and the internet. Features active at this stage are:

- Sending Calls

- Taking a picture of a caller and storing it locally

- Leaving audio recordings for the owner

- Recording custom messages to play when the doorbell is wrung.

[Mid April, Near Showcase ] The final interface prototype was built a few days before showcase, the challeng was making the buttons trigger the correct software commands on the laptop.

[Showcase] Showcase went very well. Project was well received. The entire setup worked consistently for the 3-4 hours of showcase, the only issue was when the internet went down, but it was restored quickly and without any permanent issues.

First off, recap of the last week. Nothing happened. Ross was away at a funeral so as a group we collectively took that time off.

It’s still early Friday morning so as things get going I expect to have more to write about. So far I’ve been sending copies of finished reports to group members, planning out the marketing poster for next week as well as waiting for Corey and Durval to finish up their keypad so we can integrate it with the computer.
